"it is not a sudden leap from sick to well. it is a slow, strange meander from sick to mostly well. the misconception that eating disorders are a medical disease in the traditional sense is not helpful here. there is no 'cure'. a pill will not fix it, though it may help. ditto therapy, ditto food, ditto endless support from family and friends. you fix it yourself."

it sounds so simple, but when it comes to explaining that to somebody who loves you, it proves difficult. i am prone to bouts of self-destruction. i am gradually getting less selfish, less isolated and less destructive. but it is gradual and i need forgiveness when i slip into old habits.

i bite my tongue. i apologize. i trust you to stay this time.

so, i am officially road-tripping across the united states in august. kayla, her best friend alex, alex's little brother bryan and i are driving from seattle, washington to gaffney, south carolina. we leave on august 10th and fly home on august 19th.

aside from that excitement, pride was lovely. the weather is incredible (80˚-90˚). work is usual. kayla is perfect. that's about all.

everything is in its right place. and i can honestly say that i have never before been this happy.

kayla and i share a small room with a mattress on the floor, postcards on the wall and a nightstand made of our favorite books and movies. last night she kissed in between every knot on my spine and wrote "girl, you are winter nights and summer mornings" on the refrigerator using ASL magnetic poetry.

i hope you all are doing okay, at least, if not better than okay.
